I woke to rain and a hacking cough. Enough being enough, I extended my stay in Altamura. A cold, rainy, blustery day, I made only a few forays out. The first for cold meds, and also a 13th century church just down the street.
The second (and technically third, fourth, and fifth) time I headed to the supermarket. The first time I realized I’d left my wallet behind. Then I just missed the lunch window. Italians typically work Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 1:00 pm, take a two-hour lunch and then work from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The next time no idea why they were still closed. Persistence paid off, and I’m well-stocked now.
Tomorrow likely a train to Brindisi. That should get me out from under the weather. Bari would be a better ferry point, but my wife was born in Brindisi.
I don’t know how many murders I’ve seen today.
