Nokia n810

Well I’ve gone and done it. I’m now one of those people intently typing away on a PDA.

I bought the N810 to facilitate connectivity to work when on extended vacation. Work is great about me not needing to be on call all the time, but I volunteered for this as part of my planning for a 3-week cycling trip to Sweden.

The N810 does everything I need. VPN, SSH, RDP, email, IP, and VOIP (Skype and gtalk) over either bluetooth/phone or wireless. Really an amazing gadget. And for touring also includes a GPS and maps of the US and Sweden, as well as 8 GB of storage for movies, books, and music.

Like all linux-based things, it takes some tinkering, but it’s quite slick. It’s no iPhone, but there’s no monthly fees either!
